Outdoor Leagues in The Winter? What to Expect!

Winter weather doesn’t mean we have to stay indoors for months. Our winter League is designed to make sure your children get a chance to stay active and enjoy the outdoors all year long. Playing outside in the winter is a great way for young children to burn energy, develop confidence in new environments, and build resiliency.

Here’s what parents can expect and how to help their child feel ready for our winter league:

What To Wear:

When preparing for our winter league, there are some necessary clothes to wear or bring each week. Our classes will occur even in the rain, so being prepared for any weather is vital.

  • Thermal or moisture-wicking base layer – avoid cotton because it can trap moisture.
  • Long-sleeve shirt or sweatshirt
  • Warm jacket or coat
  • Rain jacket
  • Athletic pants or snow pants (weather dependent)
  • Gloves or mittens
  • Hat or headband covering ears
  • Warm socks

What To Bring:

  • Water
  • Warm drinks, such as hot chocolate for the kiddos, coffee for the adults.
  • Snack – exercising in the cold weather will burn more calories than warm weather
  • An extra warm layer in case they get cold or wet.
  • Change of shoes and socks

What To Expect:

Our coaches will focus each week on keeping the players moving in safe ways to ensure they stay warm and comfortable. Our age-appropriate games and adventures will keep your child entertained and moving.

Each week, our coaches will teach an important soccer skill and provide chances to practice those skills. Our 3-year-old league will go for 30 minutes to ensure our youngest friends stay comfortable. The remaining ages will go for 1-1.5 hours depending on their age. We want to ensure that each age is given plenty of practice while being aware of what their attention span (and bodies) can handle.

If for some reason, the weather is no longer safe for class (snow or extreme temperatures) we will cancel that week and do a make up day on a not scheduled Sunday. If a class has to be canceled, HappyFeet will reach out as soon as possible.

We look forward to seeing you all out on the field!
